Thank you for expressing an interest in adopting a dog from Celebration of Canine Lives Sanctuary. Listed below are the steps necessary to completing an adoption. Please note that all potential adopters are required to go through these steps to help ensure that this adoption is in the best interest of not only the dog, but the human and animal family members he/she will live the rest of his/her life with.
Step 1: Read the adoption requirements and biography(s) of the dog(s) you are interested in adopting. If you agree wholeheartedly with the adoption requirements, please feel free to fill out an adoption application. As a small, limited admission rescue/sanctuary, we have put a lot of time and effort into knowing the dogs’ personalities, likes/dislikes and environments that best match their needs and desires. We strive to ensure that not only will the dogs be safe and happy in your home, but that this is a safe and well-matched arrangement for you and your other “furkids.”
Step 2: Please print and fill out the adoption application. Please be as detailed as possible and make your printing/writing legible. Applications missing important information will not be processed. Then, either submit your adoption application online or snail mail the adoption application to:
Celebration of Canine Lives Sanctuary
1401 Carpenter Hill Rd.
Cuba, NY 14727
Step 3: After receiving your application, we will call you to discuss any questions we have about it. If it sounds like potential match, we will invite you to CCLS to get to know the dog. For confident and social dogs who adapt to change easily, only one or two visits are required. If a dog has special needs that make the transition into a home a more challenging for him/her, we ask that potential adopters make several trips to the sanctuary and get to know the dog before taking him/her home. The number of times an adopter may need to visit the dog before adopting him/her will be different for each dog. This policy is to ensure the smoothest, least stressful, safest transition into a new home as possible. We want our dogs to feel comfortable with the people taking them home.
Step 4: CCLS will do a home visit to see where the dog will be living. We do not care how big, clean, or luxurious your house is. The home visit is done to help ensure that the adopter’s environment will be a safe and appropriate place for the dog. During the home visit, we will check fencing to make sure it will adequately contain the dog when he/she goes outdoors, make note of any potential dangers (such as steep stairs for a dog with poor vision) or poisonous plants and chat more about the dog’s lifestyle, how to help the dog adjust to the home, etc.
Step 5: When all of the first four steps are completed, the adopter will sign a legally binding adoption contract.
Step 6: Take the dog home and love him/her forever!
