This barn is named after Gee, another shelter dog I took for walks. Gee lived his life out at the shelter. He was a lot happier hanging out in a small room where staff ate lunch rather than he was when he was in a kennel. Even when staff would leave the room and he was left alone, Gee would enjoy the comfort of the couch, the extra space and the quietness of the room. Noticing that Gee was always more comfortable in a room instead of a kennel, I decided that when CCLS was designed, every dog would have a cheerful, cozy, home-like room.
Gee. My friend. My teacher. My inspiration.
Above is the inside of Gee’s Home before construction work. The inside of Gee’s Home before construction work. When finished, the building will have eight dog rooms as well as an office, a visitors room, a laundry room, etc. If two (or three) dogs get along well, they can share a room, enabling Gee’s Home to house more than just eight dogs. When the barn is finished and we are ready to take in dogs, the process will be done on a step-by-step basis. The mission of CCLS is to give homeless dogs happy, fun filled lives, (whether they are waiting to be adopted or are permanent residents), so we will only take in new dogs when we have the finances, resources and time to give them what they deserve.
